GTI raises over £4,800 in 2016!

Master Cockburn and Mr McGinley had the privilege of delivering a cheque for £2,710 to Leicester Hospital’s Leukaemia Unit before Christmas. The money was raised through various fundraising events including the annual GTI 100 x 1 min Rounds of Sparring, 22 mile Bridgnorth Walk, a Lego Brick ‘Fire Walk’ and collection buckets/tins at other events. Particular thanks go out to the students of GTI Hinckley, GTI Excalibur Martial Arts (GTI Bridgnorth A) and Mr Colin Parker (GTI Crewe).

The GTI Charity 100 Rounds of Sparring 2016 also raised an additional £2,096.30 from other GTI clubs, totaling a whopping £4,806.30 raised by GTI students in 2016! An amazing achievement – well done everyone!

GTI National Open Tournament Success for Team Excalibur

Team Excalibur comprised of Mr McGinley, Mr John Bradley, Mr Tom Bradley, Mr Connor McGinley, Erin McGinley, Reilly McGinley, Grace Corbett, Nathan Corbett and Toni Bennett who supported the May 2015 tournament as Umpires, Officials and Competitors.

Miss Grace Corbett took Silver in the Girl’s Blue/Red Belt Sparring Light Heavy division with tough competitors.

Mr Tom Bradley took Bronze in his first Tournament in the Men’s division, sparring in the Men’s Black Belt Middleweight division against older and more experienced competitors.

Mr Toni Bennett took Bronze in the Men’s Veterans Blue/Red Belt Sparring division – a division that is growing in popularity for adult competitors.

Erin narrowly missed out by 0.1 points to more experienced competitors in Girls Red Belt Patterns, but gave an excellent performance, with first and third place going to GTI Squad members!  Reilly also narrowly missed out on 4th place in a very large category!  Nathan and Connor both gave strong performances and gained valuable experience in their divisions, picking up tips for their next competitions.

Congratulations to everyone who competed or supported the GTI Tournament as Officials and helped to make it such a fantastic event!

Excalibur Nerf Wars: The Peacekeeper Wars

Nerf Wars April 2015 Poster

Excalibur Nerf Wars: The Peacekeeper Wars will take place THIS SATURDAY from 1pm to 3pm in the Main Hall at Bridgnorth Leisure Centre. A snack and drink will be provided at ‘half time’ and the cost per person is £6.

As usual, students, friends, family, neighbours etc. (age 5+) are all welcome – children under 10 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times. Adults are just big kids, so yes, you can join in too! However, please note that this is a family event and parents remain responsible for the safety of their children at all times.

Eye protection MUST be worn at all times in the firing zone (in the form of sunglasses, safety glasses/goggles or swimming goggles). Long sleeved tops are recommended for juniors, as Nerf darts can ‘sting’!

NO EYE PROTECTION = NO NERF!

You supply your own Nerf Guns (please note that automatic/battery operated Nerf guns are not allowed, as they constantly jam, break and take up all the ammo!) – and we supply the ammo in the form of – orange ‘Whistle/Tag’ darts, blue ‘Elite’ darts and green ‘Vortex’ discs. If you wish to bring any other form of Nerf Gun to the party, please see myself or Seamus this week 🙂

If you have any large cardboard boxes/bike boxes lurking in your shed or garage, or can get hold of some this week, please let us know as we will be collecting boxes all week ready for Saturday!

A sign up sheet will be available in class on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, or you can text/email/Facebook us to confirm attendance.

GTI Umpires & Referees Course

Open to all GTI red belt and above students aged 16+ (but also see notes below for exceptions)

Cost: £50 per person (includes certificate and polo shirt upon satisfactory completion of tournament practicals)

Reduced cost of £20 for those not eligible to undertake the full Referees & Umpires Course yet (i.e. due to grade and/or age), but wish to learn more about official’s roles in supporting tournaments (scribing, timekeeping, event administration etc.) in order to help out at future GTI tournaments – this would particularly benefit junior black belts and adult colour belt senior grades.

All participants are welcome to stay on for a Sparring Session after the class where you can put your newly learned skills to the test!

Buffet and bar to follow after the Sparring Session! 🙂

More Medal Success for Excalibur

Excalibur (GTI Bridgnorth A) GTI English Open Tournament superstars, Miss Ellie Petch and Mr Tom Bradley 🙂

Ellie won Silver in the Girls Blue/Red Cadet Division for Continuous Sparring against very tough opposition with a fantastic show of sparring and determination.

Tom won two Bronzes with a brilliant display of talent in both Boys Black Belt Cadets Divisions for Continuous and Point-Stop Sparring.

Needless to say we’re fantastically proud of all our students who compete (and help out) at tournaments and competitions, and it’s great when they get to bring home such fantastic results!  Go Excalibur 😉
